T3: Understanding DHCP and DNS
DHCP is the protocol that is a network administrator’s best friend, but can sometimes be a network administrator’s worst enemy. A properly configured DHCP server can eliminate IP configuration problems on your network; however, a rogue DHCP server can cause many problems on your network, from handing out wrong IP addresses to IP conflicts. Understanding the way DHCP works will help you troubleshoot network problems resulting from DHCP misconfigurations.
DNS is the phone book of the Internet. Name resolution through DNS is one of the most important parts of network communication, but is often not understood. Knowing how a client resolves an Internet address can facilitate troubleshooting network problems.
This seminar will help you understand how both DHCP and DNS work, as well as give you the knowledge you need to troubleshoot network problems related to these protocols. You will also learn how to set up an Internet domain from start to finish.
The
